London, UK 20 October 2010 Alterian (LSE: ALN), the leader in customer engagement technology and solutions , is proud to announce that it has been recognised by Gartner Inc., the world's leading information technology research and advisory company in its Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Marketing Management, published October 14th , 2010.

Alterian was one of seven vendors to qualify for the EMM Magic Quadrant. There were no Leaders or Challengers in this Magic Quadrant, no new vendors were added and only one company was dropped because it did not meet the minimum criteria for inclusion. Gartner has observed renewed interest in EMM and more technology investments are being made and considered during the first half of 2010, compared with all of 2009.

The report states that Gartner “continues to see tactical integration across certain components of marketing” and goes on to note, “a future differentiator will become the development of a robust and flexible workflow tool that spans all capabilities on the platform and can link in third-party tools.”

Alterian offers marketing capabilities in campaign management, MRM, Web content management and e-mail marketing with plans to offer a new customer engagement solution using a browser-based framework on the Microsoft Silverlight architecture by the end of 2010.

Alterian continues to invest in its line of products. Following the 2009 acquisition of Techrigy for social media monitoring, Alterian recently acquired Intrepid, an international social media analytics and consultancy company, in September 2010, to enhance its service offering around its social media capability. Alterian will complement the SM2 listening platform with social media engagement for execution of campaigns to social networking sites, such as Facebook and Twitter. In March 2010, Alterian released WebJourney, a Web analytics tool that analyses and tracks website visitor behaviour, as well as pages and assets.

Within the report, Gartner urges organisations to, “carefully assess a vendor’s capabilities, as well as its vision and product road map, against its short- and long-term requirements for marketing automation,” with a warning to, “expect to make trade-offs regarding functionality, architecture and usability.”

David Eldridge, CEO, Alterian, commented on the announcement, “It is great that we are again being placed within the Gartner Magic Quadrant for EMM analysis. With seven vendors meeting the criteria, we feel that Gartner recognises our roadmap, which addresses the interoperability between our products.”
