Crowned Chameleon: Joe Park

What on Earth is a Crowned Chameleon?

At Alterian, we’ve taken to calling ourselves Chameleons, just like our platform. Since we’re Adaptive Marketers™ ourselves, the moniker seemed to fit just right. While our team consistently goes above and beyond across the board, each month we’ll highlight one employee who has been nominated by our team leads for that little extra something in embodying our mission, vision, values, and goals—the Crowned Chameleon.

Alterian Crowned Chameleon

Joe Park, Specialist Consultant Developer Support

So, why Joe? Here are a few things the nominators had to say:

“Joe Park easily exemplifies our company pillars and with such ease and excellence! I’m convinced that if we were able to quantify the impact Joe’s product innovations has had on this organization, our minds would be blown. Our customers benefit hugely and for years on end from the custom automated work Joe has produced. He’s so great at making things simple, quicker, highly useful, and in an automated way. Our team really appreciates Joe and we benefit greatly from what he clearly enjoys doing!”

“Joe fits right in to our small, agile company culture by often wearing several hats at once as he works across our support, professional services, and development departments. And for all these areas, Joe always offers his help proactively! It is amazing how Joe finds time in the day to contribute as much as he does. Examples of Joe’s recent work, such as automations, monitors/alerts and building us admin tools have proved really valuable to our teams, our customers and our company. These tools have saved us and our customers so much time and effort! Joe is a gem who makes it his mission to make things easier for everyone!”

The Proverbial Interview

Joe, that’s some high praise, and it sure sounds like you deserve it. Congratulations!

At Alterian, we’re a great, big, international family, and we’d like to share some of that with you. So, I prompted Joe to share a bit about his professional and personal life to shed light on the type of badasses that our team is made up of.

So, what do you do for Alterian?
“I think I’m a bridge between our clients and our products, mainly in Email Manager world, in a way that I creates and improves email marketing automations for clients and Email Manager tools for internal use which hopefully help us all become more productive. When there are needs, I help using EM API for external and internal users.”

What is your favorite part about working for Alterian?
“Autonomy to find a useful project and complete it in my way is my favorite value in Alterian, which is hard to imagine in a big corporate. Great bunch of people is another one. These guys are smart, professional and also willing to help whenever needed. ”

What does being an Adaptive Marketer™ mean to you?
“Being an Adaptive Marketer means to me boarding on a ship that pushes the boundaries in marketing technology industry. When the ship advances in the highly competitive market, it will be a great joy to be in that ship and to contribute toward the direction we go.”

We believe in, “Work hard, play hard.” What’s your favorite thing to do outside of the office?
“I love traveling around whenever possible. Living Australia is already a kind of travel to me as I have lived in AUS only for 8 years now. I used to go camping around down under and traveled to far north, far east and far south of Australia. Far west is left to be conquered. Sleeping in a small tent makes me realize how many stuffs I have, how convenient to live in a city and became humble finding how small and weak I am in nature.”

This is one of Joe’s favorite Australian camping spots, which he visits every year.
I mean, look at that camping setup. What more could you need for a beautiful night in nature?

Do you have any unique talents or hobbies?
“I have multiple hobbies. I like assembling remote control (RC) cars, helicopters and drones. I fly those sometimes, but I have to admit that I’m a bad pilot. I sometimes ride MTB mostly on the road though, play electric guitar even though I have been practicing the same song for a few decades that never improves. I used to go snowboarding in very winter season. And finally I used to take photo with DSLR caring multiple lenses as a hobby until I realized that iPhone is a better camera.”

What’s the coolest thing you’ve ever done?
“I published a book called ‘Money, starts with timing ends with timing’ when its 10th year of working in financial industry. When a publisher approached me about writing a book, I thought it might be meaningful to release a book that will hold everything I’ve learned so far. The book wasn’t successful in the market, but I could learn that I could do something I never imagined I could do before.”

Who’s next?

Thank you for having fun with this feature blog and telling us so many funny and unique things about yourself, Joe! Congratulations on this honor—you deserve it.

Joe is one of many unique and talented cogs in the Alterian machine, and I look forward to sharing next month’s Crowned Chameleon with you in October.
